Welding Establishment of Wroclaw University of Technology:
Laboratory of non-destructive testing

     Our research and educational activity focuses on non-destructive testing of materials, elements of machines, installations and devices. We carry out investigations by: ultrasonic testing, magnetic analysis and liquid penetrant testing. During quality control all mechanical properties of tested objects remain unchanged. All of above mentioned testing methods enable us to evaluate the machine parts and whole constructions at every stage of its life and to improve the reliability of it.

     Authorization of staff (level III certification in: X-ray testing, ultrasonic testing, magnetic testing, liquid penetrant testing) and their huge experience is the warranty of quality tests.

     The newest area of activities in our Laboratory is a real time ultrasonic quality control in resistance welding process. This prospective method is based on measuring of amplitude of ultrasonic wave, which flows across the weld. The ultrasonic method gives an important information about resistance welding process, like: size of welding nuggets, its creation and crystallization moment. Most important is the possibility to assess the proper moment of switching-off the current flow and pressure. The method may be used to assess the weld, quality, to control the process and prevent faults in creation.

Laboratory of non-destructive testing invites you to cooperation by the following topics:

• flaw detection by ultrasonic, magnetic, magnetic-powder and liquid penetrant testing,
• thickness measurement by ultrasonic testing,
• metallography of casts and welding joints,
• evaluation of physical properties by non-destructive testing,
• determining of critical values for defects,
• training and consultations concerning non-destructive testing (based on current Polish and European Standards).

Laboratory is equipped with non-destructive testing systems and reference blocks.
